07.04.2008 | DJ Booth Interview
"When Robin Thicke released his debut album, “A Beautiful World”, in April of 2003, he was rockin’ the Captain Jack Sparrow hairdo, sampling “A Fifth of Beethoven” and dominating the international charts with his single, “When I Get You Alone.” In October of 2006, the Los Angeles native returned with “The Evolution of Robin Thicke,” and with the help of Pharrell Williams (and a haircut), the project was platinum-certified in roughly six months.
Now, less than two years since “The Evolution,” this mega-talented, do-it-all musician is prepping the release of his third studio album, “Something Else.” Produced in-full by Thicke and his production partner, Pro Jay, the LP will possess a mostly live instrumentation feel and feature very few guest artists. Led by the current single, “Magic,” the project is currently set for release this September.
In an exclusive interview with DJBooth’s DJ “Z,” Robin steps inside the booth to talk about his constant fear of failure, past and future collaborations with Lil’ Wayne, which famous rap group was a major musical influence, and what his ‘Dream World’ looks like. " [Read/listen to interview]

07.04.2008 | Robin Thicke Discusses New Album & Who He's Voting For
"Robin Thicke is back at it. The man who made a smash next to Lil Wayne with his previous album, now hopes to recapture success with his new album, the forthcoming Something Else. He's already got one single, "Magic," out now and he's still drawing favorable comparison's to classic icons of music.
“It was just the inspiration of the great music of Philly and Motown and the ‘70s and Gamble and Huff," he recently told Eurweb of his style this go around. “It feels like when you’re making music you don’t know where it’s coming from anymore. It’s just sort of embedded in your soul."
This singer's soulful sound comes from a deep love for music. “I’ve always naturally, organically been connected to soul music,” he added. “When I was 7 or 8 years old, it started with popular soul music like Michael Jackson and Prince. Then I got into Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder and then I started listening to gospel music like Commissioned, John P. Kee and The Clarke Sisters and then I got into rap music and Hip Hop, Mary J. Blige and Jodeci. And then I got into the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix and Curtis Mayfield.”
For the latest track, "Magic," Thicke explained the political message behind the lyrics.
“I happened to have written that song when good things were happening to me and I was realizing how much greatness we all have in us and how sometimes the world tries to beat it out of us. Sometimes you’re expressing your vulnerabilities and sometimes you’re expressing your positive nature and that’s what that is. Some of us are searching for something bigger internally. I think my music tends to connect with a lot of those people that are searching for something else.”
Later, the singer also explained how his music relates to the candidate he will vote for.
“I think this music is about what [Barack] Obama represents – hope and change with a little idealism mixed in. The album is called ‘Something Else’ it represents what we’re going through as a country and a world. It’s time for change; it’s time for hope. It’s time for Barack Obama.”
The album, Something Else, is set to drop in September. " [source]

06.06.2008 | Strip House: New Celeb Destination In Sin City
"Let’s admit it, Las Vegas is full of restaurants and sometimes it’s hard to pick out good places to dine. Thanks to the Strip House, this problem may be solved.
Located inside the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino, this restaurant features an innovative menu designed to excite all the senses with prime cuts of beef charred to perfection, signature side dishes, an extensive wine list and the famed 24-layer chocolate cake. A celeb destination bringing in Hollywood heavyweights Lindsay Lohan, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Simon Cowell, Cameron Diaz, Sylvester Stallone among others.
What’s best about the Strip House is its atmosphere. The sexy blend of rosy lighting and flock wall coverings adorned with black and white photographs of scantily dressed women from the original 1900s Studio Manasse collection. Strip House introduces many distinctive elements to reinforce its playful, sexy and vintage atmosphere. LCD screens display provocative silhouettes throughout the main and three private dining rooms, making it a hot spot at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
When the "Hollyscoop Girls" dined at this location, we had our very own celebrity sighting. Singer Robin Thicke was in the house and enjoyed a feast with his wife and pals. The food and drinks are superb and we definitely recommend this spot to anyone who is in Las Vegas" [source]
